A professional strobe

The Ikelite DS161 strobe is, together with its cousin the DS160, one of the favorite flashes of professional photographers around the world.

More important than its high light output, its round tube and the special surface treatment of the reflector allow it to have a soft and very homogeneous lighting.

Integrated video lighting
More than a modeling light, the DS161 integrates a 500 lumen video light with 10 different lighting levels to allow easy focusing of the camera's auto-focus in dark conditions, for filming macro scenes but also for use as an exploration light for night dives.

The light automatically turns off with each flash burst to avoid adding unwanted effects to photos.

Outstanding performance
The Ni-MH battery gives this flash an autonomy of 225 flashes at full power. Its 1.6 seconds ultra fast recharge time allows for unprecedented shooting. Its Ni-MH battery charger ref. 4066.1 accepts voltages between 100 and 240 Volts. The flash can therefore be used anywhere in the world.

A TTL exposure mode
When the flash is combined with an Ikelite housing equipped with TTL electronics, the flash automatically adjusts the exposure to immortalize your macro or ambient shots.

Additional information:
The guide number of a flash is the intensity of light in the center of the beam. Many flash manufacturers choose to use a reflector that focuses the beam in the center to artificially increase the guide number of the flash. Ikelite has chosen to "sacrifice" the guide number of the flash very slightly in order to favor a soft, homogeneous image without hot spots.

Most underwater flash manufacturers indicate in their flash specifications a maximum beam angle and not a coverage angle. The average coverage of an underwater flash is generally narrower than that indicated (average being between 55 and 70° depending on the manufacturer). The angle of coverage of Ikelite flashes is therefore well above average.
