Apnea diving masks

Unlike scuba diving masks that can have a larger volume, the snorkeling mask is specifically designed with the lowest possible internal volume to meet the unique constraints of this discipline. Whether you are a beginner looking for your first equipment or an experienced underwater hunter, our selection is designed to meet your needs.

Why a low internal volume is essential for freediving

When you freedive, water pressure increases and compresses the air in your mask, a phenomenon known as "mask squeeze." To equalize this pressure and avoid discomfort, you need to exhale air from your nose into your mask. A low internal volume reduces the amount of air required for this equalization, allowing you to conserve your breath and extend your dive time. Additionally, low-volume masks often provide a wide field of view, similar to frameless masks, for a better panoramic view.

How to choose the right freediving mask

Beyond a low internal volume, other criteria are crucial for making the right choice.

  • Comfort and Fit: A mask must fit the shape of your face perfectly to prevent leaks. Here's a tip: place the mask on your face without the strap and inhale through your nose. If the mask stays in place by suction, it's a good fit. A flexible and hypoallergenic silicone skirt ensures comfort and a tight seal, even with a mustache.

  • Field of Vision: A wide field of vision is essential for safety and underwater observation. Modern technologies like "frameless" designs bring the lenses closer to your eyes, providing a clearer and more open view.

  • Mask Color: For spearfishermen, the color of the skirt is an important factor. An opaque skirt (often black) is preferred to avoid reflections that could alert fish. Masks with a transparent skirt can also create reflections, which may distract the diver.

  • Fogging: Fogging is a common problem for divers. Many masks, like the Cressi Calibro or the C4 Condor, have integrated anti-fog treatments. For masks without this treatment, simple methods like burning off the silicone film, using toothpaste, or applying anti-fog products can solve the problem.
