High quality light in a lightweight flash

The exclusive circular flash tube and soft white powder-coated reflector produce a quality of light that is widely recognised as the ideal choice for professional wide-angle underwater photography.

A custom-formulated ABS-PC blend makes the flash inherently corrosion resistant and a quarter of a kilogram (237g) lighter than aluminium-bodied flash units.

The DS162's beam is designed for proper diffusion and colour temperature without the addition of a light-reducing diffuser. The optional dome diffuser #4069.2 is available to extend the light output with only half the apparent brightness.

The DS160 series is the long-time choice of professionals who need a flash that can be counted on to perform, time and time again. No flash on the market today comes close to the number of hours of factory and field testing, including under Antarctic ice.

Flash, Recycle, Repeat

The power of your flash depends on the batteries that power it. Commercially available batteries do not have the low internal impedance required for really fast recycling times. Even the best AA rechargeable batteries are slow in high-power flashes and only get weaker as their charge is drained.

Dedicated rechargeable batteries power high frame rate flashes from the first shot to the last. These industrial-grade NiMH cells have proven to outperform alkaline and lithium cells in real-world underwater conditions, including temperature fluctuations and the storage conditions of the dive photographer. Although the average life of a rechargeable pack is 5 years, we regularly talk to photographers who happily use NiMH battery packs that are 10 to 15 years old.

The battery pack attaches quickly and easily with a unique toggle lock that prevents accidental flooding. You don't even need to lubricate the O-ring. The flash front is compatible with older NiMH battery packs # 4066.5 or the DS230 flash battery pack # 40066BK.

Continuous Video Illumination for Hybrid Cameras

Some of today's best compact and mirrorless digital cameras perform equally well in both still photography and video, making the need for a lighting system greater than ever. At the same time, airline restrictions are tight and simply getting your equipment to the site can be a lot of work. The DS230 incorporates a powerful 2500 lumen wide-beam COB LED array that allows you to effortlessly switch from stills to video.

The video light also acts as a pilot light and automatically turns off and on each time you take a picture. In video mode, the light intensity is controlled by low, medium and high power settings, as well as an SOS mode to signal to others in case of emergency.
