Fourth Element has developed the X-Core Men’s Vest to provide thermal insulation to be worn under a drysuit without the need for batteries or electric heating elements. Made from 76% recycled Polartec Thermal Pro fabric, this vest traps the warm air generated by the body around the chest and in areas sensitive to the cold.

Its high-density honeycomb structure retains heat whilst wicking away sweat to prevent the chill associated with dampness. The slim fit and multi-directional stretch mean it can be worn directly over a technical base layer (such as Xerotherm or Halo AR) without creating uncomfortable bulk or restricting freedom of movement under a waterproof jacket.

What base layer should the X-Core vest be worn over? For optimal performance, it is recommended to wear it directly over a thin thermal base layer (such as the Fourth Element Xerotherm) to trap heat as close to the skin as possible.

Does the vest require additional weights ? The X-Core vest offers a very high insulation-to-thickness ratio. It adds very little positive buoyancy, which means you don’t need to overload your belt or weight system.

How should the X-Core vest be cared for to preserve its thermal properties ? Machine wash it at 30°C using a standard liquid detergent. Do not use fabric softener, as this would block the breathable fibres of the Polartec, and leave it to air dry.
