Diveavenue expert review of the BIGBLUE STRB-3K Strobe light

Achieving 3600 lumens in such a compact design is a real feat. What I particularly like is the battery indicator built into the button: you always know where you stand before diving. The 12-hour battery life is a huge plus for divers on day trips with no possibility of recharging on the boat. It’s robust, simple, and does exactly what’s required of it: being seen.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Why does the flashing rate change ? It’s a clever safety feature. When only 20% of the battery remains, the device slows the rate (60 pulses per minute instead of 120). This allows you to conserve the remaining power whilst visually alerting you that it will need recharging soon.

Is it easy to change the battery ? Absolutely: it uses a standard 18650 cell. This is very handy as you can easily keep a spare in your kit box. Watertightness is ensured by O-rings, which you’ll just need to remember to grease lightly from time to time.

Can it be used to mark a line or a lifeline ? That’s actually one of its best uses. Thanks to its slightly negative buoyancy, it stays stable when attached. Its power means you can find your way back to the mooring or the exit even if visibility deteriorates during the dive.
